WHO Meeting Over Covaxin’s eUL, Cumulative Vaccine Coverage Crosses 97 Crore

The technical advisory group of the World Health Organisation will meet on October 26 to consider emergency use listing for Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin. The chief scientist of the global health body, Soumya Swaminathan shared the news via twitter.

India reported 13,596 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, lowest daily rise in nearly eight months. 19,582 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. With this the recovery rate has increased to 98.12%, highest since March 2020.

The daily positivity rate reaches at 1.37%, less than 3% for the last 49 days. India’s Active Caseload is currently stands at 1,89,694, the lowest in 221 days. Active cases now constitute less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.56%, lowest since March 2020.

Relatively, the two most affected states recording maximum Covid-19 cases in thelast 24 hours are Kerala and Maharashtra. Kerala reported 7,555 new Covid-19 cases, 10,773 recoveries and 74 deaths in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra reported 1,715 new Covid-19 cases, 29 deaths and 2,680 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The state’s capital city Mumbai reported zero deaths due to Covid-19 for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope, the state government will take decisions over more relaxations in Covid restrictions keeping the upcoming festivals in consideration. Following this, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will chair a crucial meeting of the state’s Covid task force today.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 32 new Covid-19 cases, 0 death and 38 recoveries in last 24 hours. India inches towards the 100-crore landmark vaccination coverage as it surpasses the cumulative figure of 97 Crore. More than 65 lakh vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours.

Andhra Pradesh reported a dip of 28.3% in weekly cases while Karnataka logged a 22.5% decline.

Overall, the country recorded 1,515 deaths during this week, down to 14.6% from the previous week’s tally of 1,776.

On the other hand, the global Covid-19 caseload has topped 240.6 million.
