Mumbai and Bengaluru are among the top 10 most congested cities in the world, as per TomTom Traffic Index for 2021. Mumbai has been ranked 5th, while Bengaluru has been ranked 10th among 404 cities across 58 countries, despite Covid-induced lockdowns and many companies adopting work-from-home measures.
Delhi and Pune too are on the list on the 11th and 21st spot, respectively. India’s congestion level was 23 % in the year 2021, which is lower as compared to the pre-Covid times. The report stated that there was a decrease of 31% especially during the peak hours. In 2020, the traffic congestion in three Indian metro cities- Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, had made it to the top 10 list.
