Narasimha Rao’s 100th Birth Anniversary: Grandson NV Subhash Criticises Rahul Gandhi Over No Tribute

The absence of any personal tribute from Rahul Gandhi sparked controversy as NV Subhash accused the Congress leadership of regional bias.

The 100th birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao was celebrated with much pomp and show on 28 June. A 26-foot bronze statue of Rao was unveiled by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to mark his centenary birth celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the former Prime Minister via tweet.

The Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to Rao via twitter, describing him as the “undisputed torchbearer” of economic reforms in India.

Rao was the first leader outside the Nehru-Gandhi family to last a full-term as Prime Minister after being elected in 1991. The official Twitter handle of the Congress remembered Rao as a visionary leader who oversaw major economic transformations.

While the top Congress leaders including Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury tweeted on Rao, there were none from Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Born on June 28, 1921, Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao, was a lawyer and a political leader. He was the ninth Prime Minister of India, serving from 1991 to 1996. His government is remembered for major economic transformations. With his mandate, then Finance Minister Dr Manmohan Singh embarked on the historic economic transition.
