Rui Patricio suffers horrific head injury after nasty collision with Conor Cody during Wolves’ 1-0 loss to Liverpool – WATCH

Portuguese shot-stopper Rui Patricio suffered a horrific head injury during Wolves’ 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday (local time).

Portuguese shot-stopper Rui Patricio suffered a horrific head injury during Wolves’ 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League on Monday (local time).

Former Wolverhampton Wonderers winger Diogo Jota, who joined The Reds this season, came up with the match-winning strike in added time of the first half.

The second half ignited a fightback from the home side, as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men pushed on to find an equaliser.

However, just a minute before full time the match got halted after a horrible collision between Wolves skipper Conor Coady and Patricio during their joint efforts to stop Mohammed Salah from scoring.

Salah’s quick feet earned him space behind the Wolves backline, which forced the goalkeeper to rush out. It was at this moment when Coady’s right-knee caught Rui in the face and almost knocked him out cold.

Play was instantly stopped by the referee for the next 10 minutes as the physio and rest of the medical staff rushed out to treat the Portuguese keeper who laid flat on the ground motionless.

Soon, he was stretched off the field as John Ruddy replaced the Wolves no.11 for the final few minutes of the match.

After the full-time whistle, Nuno provided an update on Rui’s health at the post-match interview.

“We just had an update now and he’s OK. He’s totally conscious and he remembers what happened. He’s aware, so it should be OK. We have spoken already. All these situations when it’s a concussion and the head, all of us are worried. But he is OK, he’s going to recover,” Nuno Espirito Santo said after the match.

“We’ve spoken to the doctor and he told me he’s going to be OK. I think he was immediately assisted well by the doctors. Of course, we need to take the right precautions, because it’s a concussion to the head, so it’s something we have to be aware of, but the first signs are OK,” he added.

With this victory, the defending champions leapfrogged two places to sixth in the league standings and are now on 46 points after 29 matches played.
