Sruthy Sithara: Kerala’s Transgender Model All Set to Represent India in Global Pageant

Sruthy Sithara, a transgender model from Kerala was crowned Ms. Trans Global India 2021 on May 19.

“I was born as Praveen but I wanted to live my life as Sruthy Sithara,” she says.

Assigned male at birth, her old name was Praveen. It was after meeting people from the queer community while in college, that she found the confidence to own her sexuality. Since then, she has come a long way. She underwent a full transition in 2018.

While pursuing company secretaryship, she revealed her identity to some of her colleagues.

Most of them were supportive, but some even called her names. However, that didn’t demoralise her.

She went on to announce it to the world through a Facebook post. But it was unconditional support from her father that gave her the final boost.

“My father welcomed me as a trans woman. When I said to my father that I’m a trans woman and I wanted to live my life as Sruthy Sithara, he gave me full support. So, that was my turning point in my successful journey,” said Sithara.

She is set to represent India on a global stage in London for Miss Trans Global 2021 on June 12.

Due to the pandemic, it will be a virtual celebration, but that hasn’t lowered her spirits. The beauty pageant will have several rounds which include an introductory round, a question-answer round, talent round, and bikini rounds. She has planned to present her acting skills for the talent round.

“I’ve to work on my ramp walk, I’ve got to get my costumes ready, make-up artists, hairstylist, and other things. I’m browsing past pages of Miss Universe and Miss World,” said Sithara.
