Tokyo Olympics 2021: PV Sindhu In Semis, Will Face-Off World No. 1 Tai Tzu-ying

Much to the thrill & excitement of Indian fans who watched the match with baited breaths, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu stormed into the semi-finals of women’s singles event at the Tokyo Olympics. Sindhu scored an impressive win against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in quarterfinals.

The badminton champion  defeated Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20 in a nail biting match that lasted 56 minutes. Sindhu won the first set against Yamaguchi 21-13. The Japanese player made a comeback in the second set, putting up a tough competition for Sindhu, who put up a fierce fight to win the set.

In the end, the Indian shuttler won the match in straight games, inching closer to a second Olympic medal.

Congratulatory messages poured in for the champion from across the country as she made her way into the semi-finals.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, former badminton player Jwala Gutta, Assam CM & Badminton Association of India president Himanta Biswa Sarma, actor Farhan Akhtar & many others lauded the unstoppable Sindhu on her achievement.

PV Sindhu will face-off against world no. 1 Tai Tzu-ying in what is her 2nd consecutive Olympic semi-final. The reigning badminton champion had earlier won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
