Tokyo Paralympics 2020: Gold, Silver, Bronze Medal In a Day, India’s Medal Tally Reaches to 6

India has bagged four silver medals, two bronze and one gold medal in this edition of the Paralympic Games which has taken the country's tally to seven medals.

India has won another Silver medal at Tokyo Paralympics on 30th August. Yogesh Kathunia bagged the silver medal in Men’s Discus Throw F56 with a splendid 44.38m throw.

Kathunia, who had won a gold medal in the 2019 Indian Grand Prix, came all guns blazing in the final two throws as he registered scores of 43.55 and 44.38 in his fifth and sixth attempt respectively.

This led him to take up the top spot before Claudiney Batista of Brazil who fired 44.57 in his first attempt dethroning the Indian athlete. 

With this, India has bagged four silver medals in this edition of the Paralympic Games which has taken the country’s tally to seven medals.

Apart from Yogesh, shooter Avani Lekhara also added to India’s medal tally and became the first Indian woman to win a medal in the Paralympics. The 19-year-old won a gold medal in R2 – Women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 final. 

India’s Devendra Jhajharia and Sundar Singh Gurjar have also bagged silver and bronze medals respectively in men’s javelin throw F46 event in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated each player for their splendid performance. On 29th August, India’s Nishad Kumar and Bhavina Patel had won the Silver medal in Men’s High Jump T47 and Class 4 Paratable tennis respectively.
