Dalit Girl Death: Delhi Police Files Chargesheet Against Crematorium Priest, 3 Others

The 400-page final report named Radhey Shyam, the 55-year-old priest of the crematorium in South-West district, and its employees — Kuldeep Singh, Salim Ahmad, and Laxmi Narayan as accused — claiming there was sufficient evidence against them.

New Delhi: Delhi Police today filed charge-sheet in the court in the rape and murder case of a girl in Nangal area of Delhi, said the Union Home Ministry in a statement. The ministry said that the move comes as the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had given directions to speedily complete investigation and file charge-sheet within 30 days.

The 400-page final report named Radhey Shyam, the 55-year-old priest of the crematorium in South-West district, and its employees — Kuldeep Singh, Salim Ahmad, and Laxmi Narayan as accused — claiming there was sufficient evidence against them.

The charge-sheet was submitted by the Police in the Patiala House Court, which has kept the same for consideration on August 31.

The instant case was transferred from PS Delhi Cantt to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on August 5 following which a Special Investigation Team was constituted comprising ACP Sandeep Lamba, ACP Richhpal Singh, Inspector Neeraj, SI Asha, and SI Anuj for professional and speedy investigation under the supervision of Monika Bharadwaj, DCP (Crime), the ministry said.

“During the investigation, scientific, technical, and other evidences were gathered and analyzed, besides recording testimonies of relevant witnesses. Besides, assistance was taken from Forensic Science Laboratory, Rohini as well as Delhi Police’s Forensic Experts on Biology and Odontology,” it said.

Forensic Psychologists were also engaged during the interrogation of the accused. After gathering sufficient evidence on record, the Police filed the charge-sheet in court.

The Delhi Police registered a case against the four on the basis of the statement of the minor”s mother, who alleged that her daughter was raped and murdered and later cremated without the family”s consent on August 1.

In its statement, the Union Home Ministry, under which the Delhi Police functions, said the charge sheet was filed after Home Minister Amit Shah had given directions for speedy completion of investigation and filing of the charge sheet within 30 day so that the victim family gets speedy justice.

Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, the charge sheet has been submitted within 30 days, the statement said.
