The animal identified as Asian water monitor, are very common in many parts of Asia. They can easily be found in Sri Lanka to coastal northeast India to Indo-China, Malay Peninsula, and Indonesian islands where it lives close to water. Though these predators look very intimidating due to their large size, they generally do not pose any threat to humans. They often forage for dead fish, turtles, and other aquatic fauna and are usually found lurking near water bodies.
